As the successor to MG's popular TC model, the TD retained the classic lines of its forebear while incorporating notable improvements including a stiffer frame, the adoption of rack and pinion steering and updated suspension. The front suspension gained a modern independent arrangement with double wishbones and coil springs, rather than the old-fashioned straight axle with leaf springs, while the redesigned rear suspension gained increased travel. All this provided much improved handling and ride characteristics. The carryover engine was a mere 1250cc in displacement and produced around 54 horsepower, but coupled to the four-speed manual, it sent this lightweight sports car down the road with more than enough zest. This particularly head-turning 1952 MG TD is the beneficiary of what was in essence a two-stage restoration. A frame-off restoration (minus the powertrain) took place in 1995, followed by an engine overhaul, a new clutch, a new driveshaft and other mechanical and cosmetic components as needed in 2009. The frame and floors are in excellent condition and the body presents beautifully in its classic British Racing Green color. The top and full side curtains are in fantastic shape as well. The interior is largely original, with the real leather seats still in beautiful condition. The jack and owner’s manual accompany the car. With its upright chrome grille, separate bullet headlights, elegantly sweeping fenders, cut-down doors and "Banjo" steering wheel, this 1952 MG TD looks like it rolled out of the automotive golden age of the 1930s. Yet with the updates the TD received over the TC, it drives more like a modern car than its classic looks might suggest. Well sorted and ready to enjoy, this MG TD drives great and, with the easy-folding top down and side curtains out, is ready to take you on a tour!
